Shannon Farmer’s culinary journey has been remarkable, marked by dedication, mentorship, and a passion for the culinary arts. Born and raised in Georgia, Farmer initially embarked on a different career path, working in human resources. However, her love for cooking never waned, and in 2008, she decided to follow her passion and pursue a career in the culinary arena.
Her culinary education began at Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta, Georgia, where she took her first steps toward becoming a chef. During her time at the college, Farmer crossed paths with J. Kevin Walker, CMC, an experienced and accomplished chef who would become one of her most influential mentors.
In 2009, Farmer worked alongside Walker as a PM line cook at Cherokee Town and Country Club (Atlanta, Ga.). Under his guidance, she honed her culinary skills and developed a deep appreciation for the art of cooking. Walker recognized her talent and dedication, and in 2014, he offered her a position at Ansley Golf Club (Atlanta, Ga.) as a Banquet Chef.
Farmer’s journey was closely intertwined with Walker’s throughout her career, and she acknowledges his pivotal role in her development as a chef. His mentorship and guidance have been instrumental in her success, and she cherishes the knowledge and expertise he shared with her. During her time at Ansley, she worked on a wide range of culinary endeavors, from banquets to themed events, showcasing her creativity and attention to detail. She was promoted from Banquet Chef to Executive Sous Chef in 2020. When Walker retired, Farmer assumed her current role of Executive Chef.
